Why do you have all these different rollers, springs and other transmission parts shown on your website listed as performance parts? How can just changing a part such as spring or rollers increase my ATV’s performance?

We are intending to provide you with some description and ideas about CVT Transmission and why you may want to replace standard part with the high performance one.

Rollers

Rollers are what makes your CVT Transmission shift. These ‘shifters’ come in different weights. Most likely the OEM rollers in your ATV’s transmission weigh between 7.5 and 8 grams. These heavy, general purpose rollers work fine if performance is not an issue. On the other hand if you want more performance from your ATV you will need to change the OEM rollers to the lighter ones.

Rollers work this way. When you open the throttle and your engine accelerates the increased RPMs cause the rollers to apply more pressure against the movable pulley. This movement of the pulley forces the drive belt to move up. This change is similar shifting from 1st gear into 2nd gear. As engine RPMs continue to increase the belt continues to move until finally at max RPMs we are in our final or for simplicities sake, 5th gear.

What difference can lighter rollers make in my ATV\’s performance?

A great deal. Here’s why. All internal combustion engines have a power range and for almost all 2 stroke ATV engines this is somewhere over 8000 RPM. Your goal in changing your ATV’s transmission components is to keep your ATV’s engine in its intended power range where it can produce peek horsepower.

Whould engine RPMs above 8000 be a little excessive?

No. 2 stroke engines are capable of turning much higher RPMs.

So why do we want to change something that already works?

It’s all about keeping your engine’s RPMs up. The problem with your OEM rollers is that they were intended for general purpose and not for performance. Because they are too heavy the centrifugal force created from increased engine RPMs causes them to move too soon.Instead of your ATV is taking off in first gear, its transmission might have already shifted into 2nd or 3rd gear long before your engine is up to speed. This condition will be demonstrated by your ATV having a sluggish takeoff and poor low end.

I am convinced and do want to go fast. Could you send me a pack of 2 gram rollers?

No, 2 gram rollers would probably be too light to cause your transmission to shift at all. Generally, rollers weighing between 4 to 6.5 grams work best.Remember, there is a trade off between too heavy and too light. Rollers that are too heavy means poor low end perform ace. Rollers that are too light means great low end but poor top end.

Really it’s a matter of trial and error to find out which weight rollers work best in your ATV’s transmission.
